A small window lay lit within the mansion along a darkened street. And every now and again a shadow would pass by disrupting the small bit of light that bled through into the dark of the night outside. The rest of the street laid clad in darkness, a cold rain pelting down on everything that was typical of the area's weather patterns at this time of year.
A small owl sat perched on a branch just outside the window relishing in the small bit of cool air that radiated from it contrasting against the warm humid night causing steam. It hooted and ruffled its feathers in an annoyed fashion when drops of water would fall on it every now and again slipping through the canopy above it, comprised of the tree's branches. A shadow walked by the window again catching the owl's attention once more before it flew off into the night on the hunt for something to eat. And the shadow, well once again it moved, only this time to blocking the light of the window as the owner of it gazed out into the night.
John's gaze looked out the window down onto the darkened courtyard that surrounding the mansion. It was dark as ink below him and he could hardly see a thing. "Hell," he hissed under his breath placing his hands on the window frame leaning in closer to get a better look outside. But his breath merely caused the window to fog up making it harder to see.
Angrily he moved away from the window and sat down on the edge of his bed irritated crossing his arms across his chest. The news lately had been less then informative. Something was going on. He could feel it. He could sense it. Just because it wasn't being reported didn't mean it wasn't there.
When his window lit up with a flash of lightning he looked up towards his window. Storms. They were one thing that held his interest when other things couldn't. The power and unstoppable nature about them were intoxicating. Settling back down, he crossed his arms behind his head after turning on the TV.
